STORRS, CONN. - The Rhody women's track & field team competed at the UConn Northeast Challenge today where the team placed fourth overall. UConn won the event with an overall team score of 219. Albany (99), Northeastern (78), URI (65) and Buffalo (53) rounded out your top five.
The day was highlighted by the performances of Emily Renna, Janel Conley and Karleigh Manfredi. The duo of Renna and Conley finished one-two in the 100m hurdles with Renna getting the win in a finals time of 14.13s; Conley finished in 14.23s. Manfredi won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.51m. Conley placed third in the long jump with a new outdoor personal best of 5.84m.
Other Notable Performances
- Mariah Claudio ran her second fastest mark in the 400m dash with a finals time of 55.14s which placed her third.
- Tiffany Jenkins placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.59m.
- Aysha Moreino (35.06m) and Leah Wolf (32.32m) finished sixth and seventh respectively in the javelin throw.
- Briana Robitaille finished sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.26s; she also took eighth in the 200m dash with a finals time of 25.21s.
URI's heptathlon athletes will compete this Wednesday and Thursday, April 20-21 at the Holy Cross Heptathlon. Events are set to get underway at 11 a.m. both days.
The team will also compete next Saturday, April 23 at the Larry Ellis Invitational with events slated for a 10 a.m. start.
