KINGSTON, R.I. - Six individual event winners led the Rams to victory in Amherst, Mass. on Friday as Rhode Island outscored Boston College and Massachusetts in the season-opening UMass Invitational.

Rhody Event Winners
  • Mariah Claudio won the 400m dash (56.24s) and finished in second in the 200m dash (25.72). Her time in the 400m dash was the eighth-best mark in program history.
  • Courtney Hawkins earned the victory in the 3000m run in a personal best 10:06.42, making her the eighth best URI individual in the event.
  • Emily Renna crossed the finish line first in the 100m hurdles (14.33s), qualifying for ECACs.
  • Micaela McPadden earned the win in the 400m hurdles (1:05.41), setting a new URI record.
  • Kaylan Pickford won the pole vault, clearing 3.75m. This mark is a personal best, ECAC-qualifying mark, and ties the third highest clearance in URI history.
  • Katja Neves won the discus throw, reaching 39.26m with her best throw, which qualifies her for New Englands.

Rhode Island Highlights

  • Chaslynn Saucier was second in the 100m dash (12.46s). Brianna Robitaille was fifth in the same event (12.69s). Saucier qualified for New Englands in the event.
  • Keilan Nova finished in second place in the 400m dash (57.83s) and fourth in the 200m dash (26.12s).
  • Dyshelle Pemberton was fourth in the 400m dash (58.08).
  • Lauren Burke placed third in the 800m run (2:19.14).
  • Ashleigh Marks finished fourth in the 100m hurdles (15.46s).
  • Kylie McPherson was third in the 400m hurdles (1:08.44).
  • The 4x100m relay team of Saucier, Robitaille, Pemberton, and Shellyann Lindo finished second (48.04s), good enough to qualify for ECACs.
  • The 4x400m relay team of Burke, McPadden, Nicolette Pelrine, and Michelle Savoie finished third (4:03.08).
  • Amber Sekoll cleared 3.35m in the pole vault and Lindsey Folsom cleared 3.20m, good to earn second and fourth, respectively. 
  • Savoie placed fourth in the high jump (1.45m) and fourth in the long jump (4.86m).
  • Michaela Smith placed second in the shot put (11.93m) and fifth in the discus (35.03m).
  • Grace Janes placed third in the hammer throw (45.83m) and Aysha Moreino finished fourth (44.15m). Moreino also finished third in the javelin (32.14m).
  • Alexandra Carbonell also earned a point in the 800m run (2:28.70).
  • Pelrine earned two points for the Rams in the 1500m run (5:08.35).
  • Lauren Columbare picked up two points in the 3000m run (10:32.35).
