How It Happened
Freshman Erin Chratian and junior Tiara Higuchi each won their singles matches, but Rhode Island (1-3) was defeated by Boston University, 5-2, Friday evening.
Playing at No. 1 singles, Chratian won a three-set battle against Remi Ramos. After Chratian took a marathon first set, 7-6 (7-5), Ramos evened things by taking the second set, 3-6. Chratian dominated the deciding set, 6-1, to earn her first victory of the spring.
It was Higuchi who scored Rhode Island's first point of the day at No. 4 singles. Playing a strong match against Lily Burchell, Higuchi won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Her win made the team score 3-1 and Chratian pulled the Rams within one point at 3-2. However, the Terriers (2-1) pulled out the points in competitive matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to secure the win.
In doubles action, Higuchi and freshman Paulina Loredo were leading 5-4 at No. 3, but the match was halted once Boston University completed wins at the other two spots to claim the doubles point.
