After spending time in Florida for its winter training, Rhode Island gets back to action Sunday when it travels to Wagner for its first meet of 2020. The Rams practiced with Richmond in Sarasota, Fla. on Jan. 3, but Rhody has been off from official competition since winning the Harold Anderson Invitational on Nov. 24.

Series History - Rhode Island vs. Wagner

  • Sunday will be the 11th meeting between Rhode Island and Wagner.
  • The Rams hold a slight edge, leading the series 5-4-1.
  • Last season, Rhody won, 177-123. The victory snapped a five-meet losing streak in the series.
  • It was the first win for the Rams in the series since Jan. 19, 2013.
  • Caitlin Guccione (100-yard butterfly, 200-yard buttefly) and Sabrina Anderson (1,000-yard free, 500-yard free) both won two individual events against Wagner last season.
  • Katy Evans led a Rhody sweep in the 1-meter dive last time the teams met.

What to Know

  • Sunday's meet begins a stretch in which Rhody will compete as a team in three meets in a span of 12 days. After competing at Wagner, the Rams host Vermont Saturday, Jan. 18, then Fairfield and Coast Guard in a non-scoring meet Friday, Jan. 24.
  • In addition, Rhody will have a contingent at the Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational at Ithaca College Jan. 25-26.
  • Rhode Island will be trying to notch its eighth straight victory to start the season for the first time in program history. Last year, the Rams began 7-0, the team's best start ever.
  • Senior diver Katy Evans has four individual wins this season. At the Harold Anderson Invitational, she set personal bests in both events while winning both the 1-meter (255.60) and 3-meter (255.30) dives.
