KINGSTON, R.I.
 – Rhode Island opens the 2019 season with five games at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Seahawk Softball Bash.

Host UNC Wilmington (2-3) and Howard (1-3) – which Rhody will play Friday morning at 10 a.m. – are in their second weekend of play. Like Rhode Island, Radford will be making its season debut Friday.

Rhody is entering its coming off a 12-win season in 2018. Fourth-year head coach Bridget Hurlman inherited a three-win team in 2015 and has been able to win 35 games over the last three seasons. The Rams return their entire pitching staff, as well as six position starters from last season.

Series History
vs. Howard – 1-0
Rhode Island won the lone meeting between the two schools, which happened in 2010. Playing at the Buzz Classic in Georgia, Rhody won 14-13 as Erika Szymanski went 3-for-5 with a home run, double and four RBI.

vs. Radford – 1-4
Friday will mark the first meeting between the schools since 2013, when Radford beat the Rams 5-2 at the University of South Florida tournament. Rhode Island's lone win in the series came in 1998, when the teams played each other three times.

vs. UNC Wilmington – 1-3
The teams last played in 2016 as part of the UNC Wilmington Lafayette Ford of Lincoln Showcase, a 10-3 loss for the Rams. Rhode Island's lone win in the series was in 1998, a 2-1 victory at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla.
