Rams to Honor Seniors Saturday During Final Series of Season

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island closes out the 2018 season this weekend with a three-game series against Dayton. The series begins with a doubleheader Saturday and wraps up with a single game on Sunday.

Between the first and second game on Saturday, a ceremony will be held to honor five seniors who are playing in their final games for the Rams this weekend. Brianna Heller, Rachel Kuhlman, Bri Castro, Paige Julich and Kylie Shivery will all be in uniform for the final time Saturday and Sunday. Castro, Julich and Shivery have all been with the team for four seasons. Heller has been with the program for the last three seasons, and Kuhlman spent the last two years with the Rams.

While Rhode Island has been eliminated from the postseason, the series is important to Dayton. The Flyers have secured a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship, but their seed in not yet determined. Dayton enters the weekend tied for third place with George Mason. Both teams are one game ahead of Saint Louis in the standings.

  •  Junior Becca Rogers enters the weekend with 114 strikeouts on the season. She needs 11 more to become just the fifth Rhode Island pitcher to reach 125 in a single season. The last to do so was Katie Halcomb, who had 125 in 2004.
  • Rogers is currently fourth in the Atlantic 10 in strikeouts.
  • Senior Paige Julich enters the weekend with 13 career home runs. With two more, she would become the sixth Rhode Island player to reach 15 homers.
  • With two wins this weekend, Rhode Island would have its highest win total in six seasons, dating back to the 21-win year in 2012.
