Early Outburst Leads St. Francis Past Rhode Island, 13-1

How it Happened
Rhode Island found itself trailing by five runs after half an inning and never recovered in a 13-1 five-inning loss to St. Francis (Pa.) Saturday at the Liberty Softball Classic.

Three batters into the game, St. Francis (21-8) had established a 2-0 lead. Leadoff hitter Cheyenne McKee singled and Jordan Seneca followed with a fielder's choice grounder on which no outs were recorded. A double steal put both runners in scoring position for Hayley Norton, who delivered a two-run single. Sierra McKee doubled, moving Norton to third. Both scored when Halle Marion tripled to make the score 4-0. Marion later came home on a groundout, putting the Red Flash ahead 5-0.

That was all the support pitcher Abby Trahan needed. Trahan (10-3) earned the win by limiting Rhode Island (1-14) to one run on three hits in three innings of work. Adrian Smith blanked the Rams over the final two innings to close out the game.
