Rams Return to Action With Five Games at Liberty Softball Classic

Liberty Softball Classic Central

KINGSTON, R.I.
 – After a nearly two full weeks off, Rhode Island heads to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the Liberty Softball Classic this week.

Due to expected snow in the Lynchburg area later in the weekend, the games for the classic have been moved up a day. Rhode Island will now play two games Thursday and Friday, and a single game on Saturday.

The Rams (1-9) go into this week's competition looking to snap a seven-game losing streak. Rhode opens play against host Liberty on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The teams met last season in a thrilling 7-3 victory in eight innings for Rhode Island. Current senior Jenna Cubello scored the eventual winning run for the Rams.

Liberty – which Rhody will play twice this week – leads the all-time series with Rhode Island 4-2. Rhody also will face St. Francis (Pa.) twice. The Rams last played St. Francis in 2012, a 2-1 victory for Rhode Island. The fourth team at the Liberty Softball Classic is N.C. Central. When Rhody plays N.C. Central on Friday, it will be the first meeting between the programs.
