How it Happened
Rhode Island could not overcome an early four-run deficit as it dropped the first game of a non-conference doubleheader against UMass Lowell 8-2 Thursday.
The Rams (11-19) were down quickly, as the visiting River Hawks (6-31) used four hits and two walks to put together a four-run rally. Rhody cut the deficit in half with a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the first, as Paige Julich and Kylie Shivery hit solo home runs two batters apart.
UMass Lowell added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, then got two more on a two-run home run by Alyssa Hasbrouk in the seventh inning.
