Doubleheader at UMass Moved to Wednesday, Setting Up Busy Stretch for Rams

KINGSTON, R.I. – This week's doubleheader between Rhode Island and Massachusetts has been moved to Wednesday afternoon due to forecasts of rain for tomorrow. First pitch will be at 3 p.m. in Amherst Wednesday.

With the schedule change, Rhode Island will be playing seven games over the next five days. Five of those games will be conference games, as Rhody plays at UMass for two games and hosts George Washington over the weekend in a three-game set.

Rhody (11-16, 2-5 Atlantic 10) will play doubleheaders on back-to-back days. Following the conference twin bill Wednesday, the Rams will host UMass Lowell for two games on Thursday at the URI Softball Complex. After a day off on Friday, Rhody hosts George Washington in a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday.

It will be the busiest stretch of the season for the Rams, who currently have 20 games remaining in the regular season.

Series History
vs. Massachusetts – 13-84-1
The series has been very one-sided for the last two decades, as Rhode Island has one win over UMass since 1995. The Minutewomen are 27-0-1 against Rhody dating back to a doubleheader sweep on May 11, 2002. The Rams – who did manage a 2-2 tie in 2014 against the Minutewomen – last beat their A-10 neighbors on May 9, 2002, a 1-0 victory. That win snapped a 23-game win streak for UMass in the series.

vs. UMass Lowell – 2-2
This is the third consecutive season the teams will meet. The two squads have split doubleheaders each of the last two seasons.

vs. George Washington – 8-17
Rhode Island will be hosting George Washington for the third time in four seasons, as the Colonials visited the URI Softball Complex in 2013 and 2014. The Rams last beat GW on May 3, 2014 with a 6-2 victory in the second game of a doubleheader.

Junior Jenna Cubello moved into a tie for 10th place in program history with her ninth career home run last Saturday at Saint Louis. She is tied with Nicole Haywood (2002-05)… Cubello also scored the 50th run over her career in Sunday's game at Saint Louis… Over her last 15 outings, freshman Becca Rogers is 8-2 with a 2.30 earned run average covering 70 innings pitched. In that span, she has 52 strikeouts and just 26 walks… Senior Olivia Hendricks is 7-for-14 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored in her last five games.
