CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The women's rowing team competed in day two of the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J. on Sunday afternoon. The varsity 8 made it to the grand finals on Saturday and posted a sixth-place finish out of 27 schools competing in the finals.
Rhody crossed the 2000 meter mark in a time of 6:57.42 while UMass took first in the event with a time of 6:43.8.
"It was a good day for a fairly young crew," Rhode Island head coach Julia Chilicki-Beasley said. "They really stepped it up a notch this weekend and it was a privilege to be racing against experienced racers."
The novice 8 also took sixth overall out of 28 teams with a time of 7:32.6 while the Princeton lightweights took first-place with a time of 6:58.2.
In the petite finals, the second varsity 8 had a great race finishing third in the petite and ninth overall (out of 15) with a time of 7:21.9. Boston College won the grand final with a time of 6:59.2. The varsity 4 was 12th overall out of 23 teams taking sixth in the petite with a time of 8:43.33 while Kansas A won the grand final with a time of 7:48.8.
The Rams will be back in action on Saturday, April 24 in Cherry Hill, N.J. for the 2005 Atlantic 10 Championship.
