WAKEFIELD, R.I. - It did not take long for Rhode Island to get its official invite to the 2019 NCAA Rowing Championship. The Rams were the second team named as the 22-team field was revealed Tuesday evening on NCAA.com's Selection Show.
Rhode Island received its highest seeding ever at the NCAA Championship. The Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats were both seeded No. 19 in their respective flights. The Second Varsity 8+ boat was seeded No. 20 in its flight.
Team members, coaches, fans and administrators gathered at the Mews Tavern to watch the unveiling. The group exploded in cheers when Rhode Island was named as one of the 11 automatic qualifiers just minutes into the show.
The Rams now will head to Indianapolis for three days of racing at Eagle Creek Park. The 22 teams will race from May 31 through June 2.
It will be Rhode Island's second straight NCAA Championship appearance, and the fourth overall in program history.
