Rams Advance to D Finals at NCAA Championship

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – All three of Rhode Island's boats advanced to the D Finals of the NCAA Rowing Championship following competition Saturday at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.

Rhody's Varsity 8 boat of Alissa Margraf (cox), Lily Herberger, Dana Holland, Katie Shattuck, Alicia Kelley, Emily Engott, Kiana Anderson and Kelsey Maymon placed fourth out of five teams in second C/D semifinal. The Rams had a time of 6:46.368. Rhode Island was behind Washington State, Duke and Northeastern, but ahead of Navy for the second straight day. Rhody's time was eighth out of the 10 teams in the C/D semifinals.

In the second C/D semifinal in the Second Varsity 8 flight, Rhode Island was fifth out of five teams. Rhody's contingent of Carly Amurao (cox), Danielle Wolf, Eva Baker, Courtney Harrington, Mekenzie Mattheson, Shannon McIsaac, Laura Kilbane, Sydney Beck, and Meghan Ellis finished in a time of 6:57.991, just getting edged by the team from Central Florida. Rhody's time in the Second Varsity 8 flight was ninth out of 10 teams, beating the time of 7:23.625 by Jacksonville.

In the Varsity 4, the team of Avery Cohen (cox), Lauren Smith, Allie Reilly, Sage Iacovazzi and Aoife O'Keeffe was fifth out of five teams in the second C/D semifinal heat. The Rams had a time of 7:54.938. Rhode Island was ninth out of 10 teams in the semifinals, coming in ahead of Jacksonville.

All three Rhode Island boats will compete Sunday in the D Final of their respective flights. The D Final will determine teams that finish from 19th through 22nd in the final team standings. In both the Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 D finals, Rhode Island will row against Central Florida, Jacksonville and Navy. In the Varsity 4 D Final, the Rams will compete against Central Florida, Gonzaga and Jacksonville.
