KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island redshirt senior Davida Dale was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is the second career conference honor for the Providence, R.I. native. Dale earned the accolade after averaging a double-double - 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds - while leading the Rams to two straight victories over Vermont (11/25) and Fairfield (12/1) this past week.
In the 77-74 overtime victory over Vermont, Dale hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds on the clock. She led the team with a career-high 25 points and added 14 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, and third of her career. She went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc while also dishing out five assists. To add to her impressive stat line, Dale played the full 40 minutes of regulation plus the five minute overtime period without committing a single turnover.
Rhody then won its second straight game, and stayed undefeated at the Ryan Center (3-0) with a 74-41 victory over Fairfield. Dale led the team once again, this time in points (17), rebounds (8), assists (6) and steals (6).
This is just the third time in program history there have been two or more different players earn the conference weekly accolades in the same season. Last year, both Dale (Dec. 3) and Jorgensen (Jan. 7) earned the honor. The only other time in program history was in the 1994-95 season when Dayna Smith (Dec. 31), Rebecca Bright (Jan. 7) and Tasha King (Jan. 14) earned POTW honors for three straight weeks.
Rhody returns to action this Wednesday, Dec. 4 when they host Holy Cross at the Ryan Center. Gametime is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
