KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island track & field senior Samuel Snyder has been named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week the conference office announced this morning. The conference also announced that teammate Adam Franklin has been named the conference Rookie Performer of the Week for the second straight week.
Snyder, the Hopewell Valley, N.J. native won the discus throw this past weekend while competing at the UConn Northeast Challenge. His winning distance of 53.17m (174'5") leads the conference by a distance of almost 28 feet, and currently sits him 34th in the NCAA East Region. He also placed third in the shot put with a distance of 16.64m (54' 7.25") -- which also leads the conference. This is the second time this season Snyder has been named conference performer of the week.
Franklin, the Boonton, N.J. native took home conference rookie performer of the week honors for the second straight week. While also competing in the UConn Northeast Challenge, Franklin recorded a personal best in the 400m hurdles (54.90s) and a season best in the 110m hurdles (15.08s).
Snyder, Franklin and the rest of the URI men's track & field team will return to competition this Friday and Saturday, April 22-23 when the team competes in the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University. Friday's action gets underway at 2:00 p.m. from Weaver Stadium on the campus of the Tigers.
