STORRS, CONN. - The URI men's Track & Field team competed today at the UConn Northeast Challenge track & field meet. UConn won the meet with an overall team score of 206. Albany (113), Buffalo (77), Rhode Island (65) and Southern Connecticut (56) rounded out the top five.
The day was highlighted by two event winners for the Rams. Samuel Snyder won the discus throw with a season best distance of 53.19m; Snyder also finished third in the shot put with a throw of 16.64m. Casey Burley took first in the long jump with a personal best of 7.40m.
Other Highlights on the Day
- Mahlik Handley placed second in the hammer throw with a personal best of 60.81m.
- Nick Danner, with a season best 63.95m, took third in the javelin throw.
- Adam Franklin took second in the 400m hurdles with a personal best 54.90s. Teammate John Stallworth finished right behind him in third with a time of 55.07s.
- Nigel Hill ran a time of 21.68s in the 200m run which placed him fourth.
Rhody will have a busy week this week with a full slate of events. The decathlon athletes will head to Holy Cross on Wednesday, April 20 and Thursday, April 21 to compete in the Holy Cross Decathlon. Events are set to get underway at 11 a.m. both days.
URI will also compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational next Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23. Friday's action is set to begin at 2:30 p.m., with Saturday's action slated for a 9:00 a.m. start.
