KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman Jacob Reilly was named Rookie Performer of the Week by the Atlantic 10 conference offices in Newport News, Va. on Monday. Sophomore Mahlik Handley was also honored by the conference, earning the title of Co-Performer of the Week.
Reilly won the high jump at the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I. The freshman from Middletown cleared 2.05m in the event, which leads the Atlantic 10 and is the ninth-best mark in Rhode Island program history. Reilly was also named Corvias ECAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field New England Division I Rookie of the Week.
Handley placed third in the hammer throw at the Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia. His throw of 56.63m qualified him for the 2015 IC4A Championship and leads all A-10 throwers by more than four meters.
This is the sixth week that at least one Rhode Island athlete has won either award, and the second time that Rhode Island has had both a rookie performer and performer of the week.
