KINGSTON, R.I. - For the second time this season, Rhode Island sophomore Ondrej Honka was named Men's Performer of the Week by the Atlantic 10 conference offices in Newport News, Virginia on Tuesday. Rhody freshman Marlon Montague earned the conference's Male Rookie Performer of the Week award for the second time as well.
Honka had a career day at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational last week. The Opava, Czech Republic native was the top collegiate athlete in the pole vault with a jump of 5.10m (16' 8.75"). The mark leads the conference by 30cm and is tied for the second-best jump in URI school history.
Montague, who was also named Corvias ECAC Men's Track & Field Division I Rookie of the Week, ran an indoor personal record of 48.40 seconds int he 400m at the Valentine Invitational. The West Babylon, N.Y. native holds the second-best time in the conference this season. He also anchored the 4x400m relay at last week's event.
Honka, Montague, and the rest of the Rams will host the 2015 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships at Mackal Field House in Kingston, R.I. on February 21-22.
