Setting the Scene
Rhode Island's Andrew Reigstad won the URI Heptathlon Thursday afternoon. Reigstad finished the two-day event with 5388 points. He finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.37 seconds.
Eleven athletes from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Southern Connecticut competed in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run.
Rhode Island Results
- Reigstad tied Connecticut's Ben Waruch for the top spot in the pole vault (14'03.25) and placed third in the 1,000m (2:49.95).
- With his score of 5388, Reigstad currently ranks fifth in the country for an overall heptathlon score. Jesse Chapman (Connecticut) and Waruch rank seventh and 10th, respectively.
- Rhody freshman John Pangborn finished in seventh place with 4351 points. Pangborn had the fourth best height in the pole vault, reaching 13'07.25.
- Rhode Island's Trent Baltzell and Michael DiMambro were unable to compete on Day Two due to injuries.
The Rams will host the Sorlien Invitational Saturday, Jan. 19. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. in the Mackal Fieldhouse.
