KINGSTON, R.I.
– Rhode Island junior weight thrower William Janes was named to the 2012 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team, the conference announced Thursday.

Janes had a strong year on and off the field. The Newport native won the 2012 A-10 outdoor hammer throw title, and then captured the New England outdoor title in the event one week later.

In the classroom, he has a 3.44 grade-point average in kinesiology, and was named to the 2012 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team as well. Last year he was a U.S. Track and Frield and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Track and Field All-Academic Team selection.

To be nominated for the all-academic team, a student-athlete must be a significant contributor to their team on the field while also maintaining at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better for his entire academic career. A transfer is not eligible unless he has completed one full year at his institution, and freshmen are not eligible
