KINGSTON, R.I. – At the men's track & field indoor season-opener on Saturday, the Sorlien Invitational, six Rams won events.
Junior Wayne Seaton won the 60m hurdles (8.15), sophomore Anthony Davidson won the 400m dash (49.46), freshman John DiGangi won the 500m run (1:07.30), junior Thaddeus Kusiak won the weight throw (19.28m), junior Rainford Thomas won the high jump (2.03m) and sophomore James Strawderman won the pole vault (4.80m).
Rhode Island hosted the non-team scoring meet, which welcomed Brown, Holy Cross, Massachusetts, Massachusetts-Dartmouth and American International.
Many young athletes on Rhode Island performed well.
Freshman Zachary Seites-Rundlett earned second in the 3,000m run (9:26.78), as did freshman Joseph Marini in the triple jump (13.79m), sophomore Michael Cook in the 800m run (1:57.82) and senior Nicholas Guscott in the 60m dash (6.94).
The Rams swept second through seventh in the 200m dash, with freshman Jalen Young earning second in 22.37.
In second after Strawderman's win in the pole vault was Jonathan Bartlett with 4.50m.
Freshman Sam Snyder (15.21m) and Piscitelli (14.69m) earned second and third, respectively in the shot put.
Sophomore Marcos Rodriguez ran to third in the 500m run (1:07.81), along with freshman Matthew Dionne in the high jump (1.93m), junior Shaikat Bardhan in the 60m hurdles (8.46), junior Ronald Woodley in the long jump (6.97m) and senior Nathan Wigton in the 800m run (1:59.91).
In the 4x800, Wigton, Rodriguez, Davidson and sophomore Stephen McKenna ran to a third-place finish in 8:40.74.
The Rams return to action on Jan. 21 when they travel to Annapolis, Md. for the U.S. Navy Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
