Three to Compete at NCAA Men's Track East Preliminary Championship

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Three members of the Rhode Island men's track and field team will compete at the East Preliminary Round of the 2011 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships on May 26-28 in Bloomington, Ind.

Jacob Keeling will compete in both the shot put and javelin throw, while William Janes is in the field of the hammer throw and Trent Baltzell will take part in the high jump.

Keeling was the 2011 Atlantic 10 champion in the javelin. The senior, who enters the East Preliminary round seeded 36th, registered a throw of 200-11 to win his first conference title. The senior from Chepachet, R.I. is also ranked 33rd in the shot put. He finished as runner-up in the shot at A-10's, with a throw of 55-8.25 feet.

Janes is seeded 39th in the hammer throw competition. The sophomore from Newport, R.I. was second in the hammer at the 2011 A-10 Championship, uncorking a throw of 188-02. Janes also finished fourth overall at the New England Championship.

Baltzell enters the high jump competition seeded 45th overall. The A-10 champion in both the high jump and decathlon, the sophomore also captured the New England high jump title (6-10.75) on May 14.

The qualifiers from both the East and West regions will advance tocompete in the NCAA Championship, held June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
