NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Rhode Island finished third at the 2011 New England Championship, held at Southern Connecticut State University from May 12-14.
The Rams totaled 82 points, while host SCSU captured its first-ever New England title with 110 points. Northeastern was second with 86.5 points.
Trent Baltzell kept up his winning ways in the high jump, taking first place with a height of 6-10.75 (2.10m). He also captured the individual high jump title, as well as the high jump competition in the decathlon at last weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship. Rainford Thomas also scored in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-6.75 (2.00m).
Jacob Keeling earned a pair of second place finishes. The senior earned the silver medal in the shot put, with a toss of 56-05.75 (17.21m). He was also runner-up in the javelin, with a throw of 195-03 (59.51m).
Ronald Woodley earned a second place finish in the triple jump, registering a leap of 48-11.50 (14.92m).
Shaikat Bardhan placed third in the 110m hurdles, registering a time of 14.57 seconds. Wayne Seaton scored in both the 110m and 400m hurdles. He was sixth in the 400m event, in a time of 54.26 seconds, while also earning a seventh place finish in the 110m event (14.79).
James Strawderman cleared the bar at 15-03 (4.65m) to take fourth place in the pole vault. In the hammer throw, William Janes uncorked a throw of 189-05 (57.74m) to take fourth place. Thaddeus Kusiak was sixth in the hammer (187-00/56.99m).
In the relays, Rhody was fifth in the 4x800m relay (7:38.10) and seventh in the 4x100m relay (3:19.41).
