Men's Track Competes at Penn Relays and Brown Open

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Rhode Island men's track & field team wrapped up a busy weekend on Sunday afternoon as the Rams closed out their preparations for this week's 2011 Atlantic 10 Championships. Rhody competed at both the Penn Relays and the Brown Springtime Open.

A the Penn Relays, the shuttle hurdle relay team comprised of Wayne Seaton, Mark Castilletti, Joseph Sliwoski and Shaikat Bardhan finished fifth and broke a school record in a time of 58.80.

In the pole vault, senior Jamie Kida and James Strawderman both cleared 15'7' in the Eastern Pole Vault to finish fourth and seventh, respectively.

At Brown, Rhody dominated in the hurdles as Bardhan (14.90) and Castilletti (14.97) finished first and second, respectively in the 110m hurdles. Castilletti would also win the 400m hurdles in a time of 54.30, while teammate Andrew Shea was runner-up in a time of 56.21.

Senior Jacob Keeling won the javelin event with a toss of 60.62m and finished runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 16.11m. Teammate Winthrop Smith was runner-up in the javelin with a mark of 57.25m.

Rhode Island returns to action this Friday-Saturday to take part in the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships. Action begins at 9 a.m. each day and takes place in Charlotte, N.C.
