Men's Track Dominates at Holy Cross Meet

WORCESTER, Mass. - The University of Rhode Island men's track & field team won 11 events en route to a meet victory at Holy Cross on Tuesday afternoon at Hart Track.

Rhody notched 217 points to outlast New Hampshire (154), Holy Cross (136) and Worcester State (113).

The Rams got the meet started in a big way as William Janes (58.90m), Thaddeus Kusiak (56.66m) and Justin Nicoll (54.86m) finished in the top three spots of the hammer throw event. Senior Jacob Keeling won both the shot put (16.10m) and javelin throw events (59.64m), while teammate Winthrop Smith was third in the javelin with a mark of 53.74m.

Rhody would make it a clean sweep of the throwing events as Andrew Piscitelli (49.65m), Nour Shahin (44.53m) and Kusiak (43.67m) finished in the top three spots of the discus throw.

Senior Jamie Kida won the pole vault event with a mark of 4.80m while teammate Jordan Burandt was third with a mark of 4.42m.

Sophomore Ronald Woodley won the triple jump with a mark of 14.36m as Rainford Thomas finished runner-up with a mark of 13.62m. Thomas would also finish third in the high jump with a mark of 1.88m.

Wayne Seaton continued his strong outdoor season as he won both the 110m (14.60) and 400m (54.74) hurdles. Shaikat Bardhan (14.86) was runner-up in the 110m hurdles, while Andrew Shea (55.43) was runner-up in the 400m hurdles.

Senior David Kennedy won the 400m dash in a time of 48.18 while junior Nicholas Guscott won the 100m dash in a time of 11.13. Kennedy would later go onto win the 200m dash in a time of 21.91.

Rhode Island will be back in action this Friday to take part in the Penn Relays. The two-day event begins at 10 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and takes place at Philadelphia's Franklin Field.
