NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Rhode Island sophomore Trent Baltzell has earned Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Track & Field Co-Performer of the Week honors after his record setting performance at last week's Sea Ray Relays, the conference office announced this afternoon.
Competing in his first colligate decathlon, Baltzell broke the school recoding for points as he tallied 6,614 on his way to an eighth place finish last week in Knoxville. Baltzell also registered seven personal best marks during the multi-event competition.
The Sutton, Mass. native currently sits 77th nationally for points in a decathlon (6,614), while teammate Andrew Reigstad is 79th on that list with 6572. Reigstad also competed at the Sea Rays Relays, finishing ninth.
Baltzell shares the weekly honor with Charlotte's Darius Law who won the 400m dash at the War Eagle Invitational, clocking a time of 46.00. The mark currently represents the 14th fastest in the nation.
Rhode Island returns to action this Thursday as it heads to Worcester, Mass. to take part in the Holy Cross Decathlon. Competition is set to begin at 10 a.m.
