SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island men's track & field team posted top-two finishes in the both the pole vault and hammer throw events as Rhody competed at the Bryant University Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Bryant Track & Field Complex.
In the pole vault, freshman James Strawderman took first with a mark of 4.41m while fellow freshman Jordan Burandt finished second with a mark of 4.26m. In the hammer throw, William Janes and Thaddeus Kusiak finished first and second, respectively, with marks of 56.93m and 54.78m.
Kusiak would go onto post a fourth place finish in the discus with a mark of 43.43m, just ahead of teammate Nour Shahin who was fifth with a mark of 42.88m.
Senior Rob Damon posted a runner-up finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.98m and Jamie Mordas was ninth in the javelin with a toss of 49.81m.
Senior David Kennedy picked-up where he left off from the indoor season and beat out 46 other competitors to win the 200m dash in a time of 22.06. Cameron Cormier and Nicholas Guscott made it three Rams in the top-five as Cormier was runner-up in a time of 22.56 while Guscott was fourth in a time of 22.75. Guscott would also post a runner-up finish in the 100m dash in a time of 11.01, while Cormier would finish fourth with a time of 11.15.
Senior Daniel Hawkins had a career day as he beat out 54 other competitors to win the 1500m run in a time of 4:02.21. Hawkins would then go onto finish fourth in the 800m run in a time of 1:58.26.
The 110m hurdles saw four Rams place in the top-seven as Wayne Seaton (14.67) was runner-up and Shaikat Bardhan (15.12) was third. Joseph Sliwoski (15.59) was fifth and Chris Miczek (16.04) was seventh. Seaton would later post another runner-up finish in the 400m hurdles as he had a time of 55.76.
Sophomore Anthony Davidson continued his mastery of the 400m dash as he beat out 34 runners to finish first in a time of 49.16.
Rhode Island will be back in action next Saturday, April 9th to take part in the UConn Invitational. The meet begins at 10 a.m. in Storrs, CT.
