Peterson Wins Discus Title at A-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship

Day One Results

AMHERST, Mass. -- Derek Peterson captured the discus throw, capping a solid day one for Rhode Island at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Outdor Track & Field Championship, held at the University of Massachusetts.

Peterson, who came into the meet with the league's best performance mark in the event, threw 52.76m to capture his second consecutive league title. Andrew Piscitelli was fourth (45.22m).

Rhode Island had a 5-6-7 finish in the high jump, as Rainford Thomas (2.04m), Albert Bastien (2.04m), and Michael Elliott (1.99m) each scored points for the Rams.

Jonathan Bartlett (4.35m) and James Whalen (4.35m) were sixth and seventh, respectively in the pole vault.

Ronald Woodley was seventh in the long jump (6.84m).

As a team, URI sits in fourth place with 40 points. Temple leads with 71 points.
