Rams See Season-Best Performances at Holy Cross Meet

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Rhode Island men's outdoor track & field team competed in a dual meet at Holy Cross. The meet featured teams from host Holy Cross, New Hampshire, Central Connecticut, and Worcester State.

New Hampshire won the meet, with 221.50 points, while Rhody was second (211). Central Connecticut was third (72.50).

Jonathan Bartlett won the pole vault, clearing the bar at a height of 13-07.25. James Whalen was third, also clearing the same height but finishing third based on attempts. Kevin Alexander was fourth (12-07.50).

Derek Peterson won the discus throw, improving his season and A-10-best mark with a toss of 171-03. Andrew Piscitelli was second (146-04), followed by Nour Shahin in sixth (137-09).

Brian Alexander led a 1-3 sweep in the 110m hurdles. He crossed the finish line first in a time of 14.82 seconds. Wayne Seaton (14.92) was second and Shaikat Bardhan was third (15.33). All three recorded season-best times in the event.

Wayne Seaton blazed to his fastest time of the year in the 400m hurdles, with a winning time of 53.38 seconds. URI swept 3-6 in the race, as Brian Alexander (55.86), Andrew Shea (56.33), Kevin Alexander (56.68), and Manuel Richards (57.98) all ran well.

Jacob Keeling was second in the shot put, with a toss of 52-01.75. Rainford Thomas had his best long jump performance of the season, finishing second with a leap of 22-01.50. Larry Shores was fourth (21-07.25), followed by Jeffrey Pereira in sixth (21-02.00) and Corey Jones seventh (21-00.75).

Shores was also fifth in the triple jump, with a leap of 43-01.00. Thomas and Albert Bastien tied for second in the high jump. Both student-athletes cleared a height of 6-06.25.

Keeling was also second in the javelin - uncorking the best performance in the A-10 so far this season. He registered a throw of 200-03. Winthrop Smith was sixth (181-02).

Nicholas Sanborn placed second in the 400m (50.42) and Nate Wigton was fourth (51.66), dropping down from the 800m run. David Kennedy also dropped down in distance, finishing second in the 100m in a time of 10.84. Teammate Sam Killen was fifth (11.10).

Kennedy was also second in the 200m (22.49), followed by teammates Victor Boonham (23.37) in fourth and Sam Killen in fifth (23.55).

William Janes and Justin Nicoll were 3-4 in the hammer throw. Janes registered a throw of 180-03, while Nicoll had a throw of 176-02. Both marks were season-bests and rank as the fourth and sixth-best marks, respectively in the A-10 this season. Peterson (171-03) and Thaddeus Kusiak (166-02) were seventh and eighth, respectively in the hammer throw at the meet.

In the relays, the Rams were second in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.04 seconds - the fastest performance of the season. Their 4x400m relay won in a time of 3:27.99. ----- Full Results

From April 14-15, several URI student-athletes competed in the Holy Cross Decathlon meet. Joseph Sliwoski was eighth overall, totalling 5503 points.

Teammates Chris Miczek finished 11th (5359), followed by Larry Shores in 15th (5040).
