KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island men's track and field team won the Rhody Open Saturday afternoon at Mackal Fieldhouse. Rhody finished the meet with 180 points.
Junior David Kennedy won a pair of races as he captured the 200 and 500-meter dash events posting times of 22.48 and 1:04.56, respectively. Kennedy's time in the 500m was a IC4A qualifying mark.
Sophomore Anthony Chierici claimed the 400m dash as he clocked a time of 51.12
Senior Brian Alexander took third in the 55m hurdles in a time of 8.08. Alexander also placed second in the 400m dash.
In the relay events, Rhody took first in the 4x400m (3:26.85) and fifth in the distance medley (10:53.97).
In the field events, Rhody dominated the field in the shot put as it claimed the top three spots. Junior Jacob Keeling won the event with a toss of 51 feet, 7 inches. Keeling's performance in the shot was an IC4A qualifying mark.
Teammates Greg Borrelli (50-8.75) and Derek Peterson (47-8) placed second and third, respectively.
Keeling also placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 55-10.50.
In the high jump, senior Rob Damon hit the IC4A qualifying standard for the second straight week as he posted a leap of 6-8.25.
Rhody returns to action Feb. 5 as it heads to the Yale-Gigengack Invitational in New Haven, Conn. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m.
