PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Several members of the University of Rhode Island men's track & field competed at the 2009 Penn Relays, held at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

Derek Peterson registered a throw of 172-07 (52.61m) in the college discus championship, good for seventh place overall. It was a season-best mark for Peterson, who leads all A-10 performers in the event so far this year.

In the college men's pole vault/Eastern, Shinzaburo Kida placed ninth overall with a vault of 15-9 (4.80m). It was Kida's highest clearance on the season, ranking second on the A-10 performance list.

Michael Elliott finished 16th in the college men's high jump/Eastern, clearing a height of 6-5 (1.96m).
