Three URI Student-Athletes Named Academic All-Conference

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island track and field juniors Brian Alexander, Michael Elliott and James Whalen each earned spots on the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men's Indoor Track and Field Academic All-Conference Team.

The three Rhode Island student-athletes named to the All-Academic squad were a conference-best.

Alexander (North Kingstown, R.I.) holds a 3.74 grade point average in electrical engineering. He also earned Academic All-Conference honors in both indoor and outdoor track in 2008.

Elliott (Lisbon, Conn.) took gold in the high jump at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championships with a leap of 6 feet, 10.25 inches. The Rhody high jumper also holds a 3.27 gpa in business.

Whalen (Reading, Pa.) was named the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championships Field Performer of the Year. In addition, The URI junior has been selected to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in four out of five semesters. Whalen also holds a 3.65 in Secondary Education and History.
