NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Rhode Island men's track and field team completed competition at the 2009 New Balance Invitational on Saturday. The two-day meet was held at the Armory Track and Field Center.
In the running events, sophomore David Kennedy (Essex Junction, Vt.) competed in both the 200-and 500-meter dashes in the championship division. Kennedy clocked a time of 21.94, which qualified him for the IC4A Championships. The URI sophomore's time of 1:05.55 served as a New England qualifying performance.
In the championship division of the shot put, junior Tyler Adams (Middletown, R.I.) posted a season-best and New England Championships qualifying mark of 50 feet, 2 inches..
Junior Michael Elliott (Lisbon, Conn.) earned a second-place finish in the consolation division of the high jump as he posted a New England Championships qualifying leap of 6-8. Fellow teammate Rob Damon (Piscataway, N.J.) took fourth in the event with a jump of 6-4
Other field events saw senior John Carstensen (Staten Island, N.Y.) place eighth in the college division of the pole vault with an IC4A qualifying performance of 15-9.
In the 4x400-meter relay, Rhody took fifth in the college division, clocking a season-best and IC4A qualifying time of 3:18.77.
Rhody returns to action on Feb. 13 as it takes part in the Armory Winter Games in New York, N.Y. Competition is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
