STORRS, Conn. - The University of Rhode Island men's track & field team placed second at the UConn Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies finished in first-place with 297.5 points, followed by the Rams in second with 111 and Boston University in third with 104 points. Providence placed fourth with 80.50 points, followed by Brown (61 points) and Quinnipiac (14 points).
Junior Alex Reid (Middletown, N.Y.) recorded the only first-place finish of the afternoon for URI as he won the 200m dash with a time of 22.16. He also placed third in the 100m hurdles with a mark of 14.86.
In the shot put, junior Tyler Adams (Newport, R.I.) placed second with a throw of 49-11.75 and fourth in the discus (147-08). Senior Mason Folcarelli (Newport, R.I.), meanwhile, was second in the javelin (172-03).
Sophomore Michael Russell (Preston, Conn.) and freshman Sam Killen (Cranston, R.I.) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 100m dash with times of 11.01 and 11.06. Russell also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 22-01.75 while sophomore Andrew Westover (Concord, N.H.) was fourth (22-01.00).
Junior Michael Elliott (Lisbon, Conn.) recorded a third-place finish in the high jump (6-02.25).
The Rams 4x100m relay team of Russell, Killen, freshman Sean Curry (Tinton Falls, N.J.), and Reid placed second with a mark of 42.57. In the 4x400m relay event, the team of freshman Nick Sanborn (Nashua, N.H.), senior Thomas Barek (Portsmouth, R.I.), junior Matthew Cunningham (King of Prussia, Pa.), and junior Kurt Henning (Dresher, Pa.) finished third with a time of 3:28.98.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when it travels to Worcester, Mass. for a meet at Holy Cross with New Hampshire and Quinnipiac. The event is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
