WORCESTER, Mass. - University of Rhode Island men's track and field sophomore James Whalen (Sinkling Spring, Md.) and freshman Manuel Richards (Fair Haven, Vt.) stood in sixth and seventh place, respectively, after day one of competition at the Holy Cross Decathlon Wednesday afternoon.
Whalen recorded a time of 11.93 in the 100m and a mark of 54.82 in the 400m. He posted a mark of 6.46m in the long jump, 32-00.75 in the shot put, and 6-00.50 in the high jump, giving him a total of 3,092 points.
Richards, meanwhile, recorded a time of 12.02 in the 100m and 49.93 in the 400m. In the long jump, Richards posted a leap of 5.87m while recording a throw of 30-00.25 in the shot put and a jump of 5-10 in the high jump. He finished the day with a point total of 3,069.
The duo will conclude competition at the event on Thursday, April 17.
