NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The University of Rhode Island captured first place team honors at the SCSU Owl Invitational, held on Saturday, March 29.
The Rams totalled 148 points, besting second-place and host team SCSU (113 points).
On the track, David Kennedy had a big day for the Rams. He captured the 200m dash in a time of 22.31 seconds, while placing second in the 400m dash (49.72).
Cameron Cormier finished third (22.54), while Brendan Lamboy was fifth (22.85) in the 200m, while finishing third and fourth, respectively in the 100m dash. Cormier clocked a time of 11.11 and Lamboy crossed the line in 11.28.
Alex Reid and teammate Matt DiMola finished 1-2 in the 110m hurdles. Reid registered a winning time of 15.03 seconds, followed by Dimola's 15.40 mark. Dimola was third in the 400m hurdles, clocking 57.85 seconds. Manuel Richards was fifth (58.23).
In the jumps, Manuel Richards was second in the triple jump, with a leap of 42-06.25 (12.96m). Michael Elliott and Steven Lally tied for third in the high jump, clearing a height of 6-00.75 (1.85m). John Carstensen was second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 15-07.00 (4.75m).
In the throws, Ryan McCarthy led URI with a victory in the javelin throw. McCarthy had a throw of 202-11 (61.86m). Jacob Keeling was fourth (179-07/54.74m). Three Rhody student-athletes placed in the top five in the discus. Derek Peterson was second, with a toss of 160-09 (49.00m).
Tyler Adams (143-02/43.64m) and Michael Bernardo (142-10/43.54m) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Adams also earned a fourth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 48-11.00 (14.91m). Bernardo finished third in the hammer throw, with a heave of 173-05 (52.87m). Peterson was fifth (165-05/50.43m).
The Rams' relay squads also performed well. The 4x400m relay team of Stephen Mateka, Kimly May, Matt DiMola and David Kennedy took first place in a time of 3:23.50. The 4x100m relay squad of Cameron Cormier, Brendan Lamboy, Michael Russell, and David Kennedy was second in a time of 42.12.
