BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Rhode Island men's indoor track & field team competed at the Boston Valentine Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
Freshman Jacob Keeling (Chepachet, R.I.) won Flight No. 3 of the weight throw with a score of 15.77m while senior Michael Bernardo (South Attleboro, Mass.) placed fourth in Flight No. 5 with a score of 18.41m. Keeling later took home second place in Flight No. 6 (15.19m).
Freshman Michael Russell (Preston, Conn.) placed fourth in Flight No. 7 of the long jump with a score of 6.80m and sophomore Shawn Leonard (Stoughton, Mass.) tied for fourth overall in the high jump (1.98m).
Senior Yudehwheh Gbaa (Providence, R.I.) placed second in Flight No. 7 of the triple jump with a score of 14.84m while junior Ryan Karwiel (Melrose, N.Y.) earned a second-place finish in Heat No. 5 of the (2:33.12) in the 1000m run. Gbaa also won Heat No. 8 and placed 15th overall in the 200m dash with a time of 22.22.
Junior Kimly May (Spring Valley, N.Y.) won Heat No. 11 of the 500m dash (1:06.32) and freshman Cameron Cormier (Bangor, Maine) won Heat No. 15 (49.60) of the 400m dash. Junior Michael Bland (Long Branch, N.J.) finished second in Finals No. 2 and sixth overall in the 55m dash with a time of 6.47.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships, which will be held at Mackal Field House on the URI Campus. The event begins at 9 a.m. and tickets are available at the door.
