INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - Rhode Island sophomore Michael Kazmierczak (Plainview, N.Y.) was one of ten race walkers to compete at the 2006 USA vs. Canada Junior Race Walk Match in Minneapolis, Minn. on Sunday, August 20. Pacing the American contingent with a second-place finish, Kazmierczak completed the 10k in a personal-best time of 47:46.
"This race was by the far the best one I've ever had," Kazmierczak said. "I was happy with my tactical racing and my time. I placed second overall and I was the first American by over a minute. It was only an 11-second PR but I was racing for place and was not paying attention to time."
Kazmierczak, who is entering his second year with the Rams, finished third in the 10,000-meter Junior Men's Racewalk at June's Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. and represented the United States at the IAAF World Racewalk Cup in La Coruña, Spain in May. As a Rhody freshman, Kazmierczak won the race walk at the Penn Relays, crossing the finish line eleven minutes ahead of the second-place finisher.
