CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The University of Rhode Island men's track & field team competed at the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational at the University of Virginia on April 14.
Ashhad Agyapong won two events, taking first place in the 100m dash in a time of 10.65 seconds. He also captured the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 21.47 seconds.
LaeJon Brooks won the 110m hurdles, clocking 14.19 seconds - good for a spot in the NCAA Regional Championship. Brooks also finished second in the 400m hurdles, in a time of 53.85. Christopher Adams was sixth in the 110m hurdles, in 15.05.
Michael Elliott was seventh in the high jump, clearing a height of 6-2.75 (1.90m). Yudehweh Gbaa was second in the triple jump (47-9.75/14.57m) while also finishing fourth in the long jump, with a leap of 22-00.75 (6.72m). Michael Russell was sixth in the triple jump, with a 44-2 foot performance.
Derek Peterson finished second in the discus throw, with a heave of 157-03 (47.93m), while Ryan McCarthy was seventh (142-05/43.41m). Mike Bernardo was fifth in the hammer throw, with a toss of 171-05 (52.24m).
The Rams return to action next week at the University of Connecticut Invitational in Storrs on April 21.
In the relays, Bland, Brooks, Gbaa, and Agyapong won the 4x100m relay, clocking 41.65 seconds.
