Men's Indoor Track & Field Finishes Second at New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - The Rhode Island men's indoor track & field squad placed second (32 teams) at the New England Championships, hosted by Boston University. Junior Yudehwheh Gbaa led the way for the Rams, capturing the 55m hurdles (7.60) and the triple jump (50-08.75) while placing fourth in the long jump (22-10.50).

 

Senior sprinter Ashhad Agyapong finished second in the 55m dash (6.29) and 200m dash (21.08) while sophomore Michael Bland placed third (6.36) and seventh (22.19) in the same events.

 

Senior Christopher Adams finished third in the 55m hurdles (7.71) while junior Sean Strizzi turned in a third-place performance in the pole vault (15-03.00).

 

Rhody had seven other top-ten performances as freshman Michael Russell and classmate Michael Elliott finished seventh (22-03.75) and eighth (22-03.50), respectively, in the long jump. Elliott also finished third in the in the high jump (6-07.50) while sophomore Shawn Leonard placed fifth (6-05.50) in the same event.

 

Junior Michael Bernardo placed second in the weight throw (59-04.00) while classmate Ryan McCarthy and freshman Tyler Adams finished third (52-07.50) and seventh (50-06.00), respectively, in the shot put.

 

The Rams will return to Boston next weekend for the IC4A Championships, beginning Saturday, March 3 at 11:00 a.m.
