PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Rhode Island freshman Michael Kazmierczak led the Rams at Penn Relays on Friday and Saturday with his outstanding performance in the juniors 10K racewalk.
Although the racewalk is an event that is not contested in most collegiate track & field meets, Kazmierczak won the racewalk with a time of 47:57.66, a whole eleven minutes ahead of the second-place finisher.
In the eastern college men's pole vault, senior Adam Zucconi jumped a height of 4.6 meters (15 feet, 1 inch) to take eighth-place and tie his season best mark while in the eastern college men's triple jump, sophomore Yudehwheh Gbaa placed 16th with a distance of 13.84 (45-5).
Sophomore Michael Bernardo took 18th in the college men's hammer throw with his distance of 53.69 (176-1). Fellow sophomore Ryan McCarthy threw a distance of 14.55 (47-9) in the eastern men's shot put to take 23rd.
The 4x400-meter relay team of senior Robert Johnson, sophomore Brandon Lamboy, junior Matthew DiMola and freshman Kimly May placed fourth in their heat with a time of 3:20.33 while the 4x200-meter relay team of DiMola, Gbaa, senior Eric Groce, and junior Ashhad Agyapong were unable to finish due to an injury acquired by Agyapong during the final leg of the race.
The Rams will prepare now for the Atlantic 10 Championship, hosted by Charlotte this Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7th at 9 a.m.
