CAMBRIDGE, M.A.-Rhode Island sophomore Ryan McCarthy led the Rams with his two first-place finishes at the MIT Invitational Saturday. McCarthy's mark of 57.32 meters (188 feet, 1 inch) in the javelin was a season best as was his mark of 44.72 (146-09) in the discus.

Sophomore Michael Bernardo also had a season best in the discus with his second-place throw of 42.57 (139-08) while in the hammer throw he earned another second-place finish with a distance of 54.88 (180-01). Freshman Michael Trappen finished fourth in the discus (39.09, 129-03) and fifth in the hammer throw (40.76, 133-09).

Freshman Alex Sico posted a New England Championship qualifying time of 32:02.47 to take second-place in his first 10,000-meter race of the season.

The 4x100-meter relay team of junior Ashhad Agyapong, senior Eric Groce, freshman Michael Bland and sophomore Yudehwheh Gbaa took first place with a time of 41.91 while the 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Kimly May, Bland, Agyapong and Groce took second-place (3:25.57).

In the 110-meter hurdles Gbaa (15.29), junior Christopher Adams (16.10), junior Matthew DiMola (16.14), senior Patrick Mills (16.17) and freshman Matthew Chiesa (16.43) earned second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh-places respectively. In the 400-meter hurdles, DiMola (55.89) and Chiesa (57.59) took third and fourth-places.

In the pole vault, freshman John Carstensen took second-place with a season best height of 4.41 (14-06) while senior Robert Johnson took third-place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.98.

The Rams will compete next at Holy Cross on Tuesday, April 25th at 2:30 p.m.
