Men's Track & Field Takes Third at New England Championship

BOSTON-Rhode Island junior Ashhad Agyapong led the Rams to a third-place finish at the New England Championship in Boston, Friday and Saturday. The Rams scored 85.5 points behind Southern Connecticut with 91 points and Connecticut with 161.5 points.

Agyapong took first-place in the 400-meter dash with his time of 47.47 and took second-place in the 200-meter dash with his final time of 21.48. In the 55-meter dash, freshman Michael Bland took first place with his time of 6.37. Another first-place finisher was LaeJon Brooks in the 55-meter hurdles with his time of 7.42.

Sophomore Yudehwheh Gbaa had a mark of 14.87 to take second-place in the triple jump and a mark of 7.04 in the long jump to take third-place. Gbaa also ran a time of 7.74 to earn fifth-place in the 55-meter hurdles.

In other field events, sophomore Sean Strizzi tied for third-place in the pole vault with a height of 4.81 meters (15 feet, 9 inches). Senior Evan Lima took third-place in the high jump with his mark of 2.06 (6-9) while sophomore Michael Bernardo also took a third-place finish in the weight throw with his mark of 17.79.

The Rams qualifying competitors will compete next at the ICAAAA Championship in Boston, Saturday and Sunday, March 4th-5th at 11 a.m.
