New York, N.Y.-Rhode Island sophomore Ryan McCarthy led the Rams at the Armory Winter Games in New York City, Friday night.
McCarthy competed in the shot put and weight throw. He earned a first-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 16.54 meters which secured a first-place ranking the Atlantic 10 Conference. He also took ninth place in the weight throw with his personal best mark of 14.49 meters.
Sophomore Yudehwheh Gbaa took first-place in the triple jump and qualified for the ICAAAA Championship with his mark of 14.78 meters. Gbaa also took third-place in the 60-meter high hurdles (8.38).
Freshman Michael Bland's time of 6.86 broke the school record and earned him a first-place in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Sean Strizzi vaulted his personal best height of 4.85 meters to win the event and take first-place ranking the Atlantic 10 Conference. Junior Ashhad Agyapong also earned first-place ranking in the Atlantic 10 in the 200-meter dash with his winning time of 21.38.
The Rams will host the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship at Mackal Field House, Saturday, February 18th at 2:30 p.m.
