PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Rhode Island men's 4x200-meter relay team finished first in the IC4A section at the prestigious Penn Relays on Saturday.
The team of sophomore Darnell Douglas (Delmar, N.Y.), junior Eric Groce (Rutland, Vt.), freshman Brendan Lamboy (Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore Ashhad Agyapong (Trenton, N.J.) ran a school-record time of 1:25.31 to finish first among the eight teams in the IC4A section. The team was seeded 10th after qualifying on Friday, just two spots out of making the championship relay.
Rhode Island's 4x100 relay team also made the IC4A finals, finishing fourth in 41.13 seconds.
Senior Andre' Reid (South Windsor, Conn.) finished seventh in the college championship shot put with a toss of 58-feet-5 3/4. He also finished 19th in the college discus with a heave of 155-6.
Sophomore Dan Godin (Coventry, R.I.) placed 10th in the college hammer with a with a throw of 184-1, while senior Sean Bramley (New Paltz, N.Y.) took 10th in the college shot put with a toss of 50-2. Freshman Ryan McCarthy (Worcester, Mass.) finished 18th in the Eastern college shot put with a heave of 48-9.
The Rams return to action next weekend when they look for their fifth-straight Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Richmond, Va.
