Stammen Posts School Record In Taking Third At Holy Cross Decathlon

WORCESTER, Mass. - University of Rhode Island senior Karsten Stammen (Helberstadt, Germany) scored a school-record 6,370 points to take third place in the Holy Cross Decathlon, held Wednesday and Thursday.

Stammen ran 11.84 seconds in the 100-meter dash, leaped 20-feet-11 1/4 in the long jump and threw the shot put 41-9 3/4. He cleared 5-10 1/2 in the high jump and ran 53.40 in the 400 dash. He ran 15.90 seconds in the 110 hurdles, threw the discus 111-7 and the javelin 155-7. Stammen cleared 14-2 3/4 in the pole vault and ran 4:51.35 in the 1,500.

Junior Patrick Mills (Bay Shore, N.Y.) finished eighth with 5,384 points. He ran 12.04 seconds in the 100 meters, cleared 19-9 1/2 and tossed the shot put 33-10 1/4. He cleared 5-8 in the high jump and ran the 400 dash in 52.55 seconds. Mills ran the 110 hurdles in 16.53 seconds, threw the discus 102-3 and heaved the javelin 86-8. He cleared 11-3 1/2 in the pole vault and ran 5:11.44 in the 1,500.

The Rams return to action on Saturday at the Bucknell Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
