KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island senior Andre' Reid (South Windsor, Conn.) was named ECAC Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this year after posting a school record in the shot put with a toss of 60-feet-1 on Friday at the Sea Ray Relays.
Reid's school-record throw of 60-1 is currently the 20th-best performance in the nation this spring and ranks him fifth in the East. He was also named the Atlantic 10 Men's Track & Field Performer of the Week for the third-straight week and fifth time on the season.
Reid posted three NCAA Regional qualifying marks in the Sea Ray Relays, winning the open shot put with the heave of 60-1, taking third in the invitational shot put with a mark of 58-6 and finishing fourth in the invitational discus with a throw of 173-11.
He is the three-time defending Atlantic 10 champion in both the Indoor and Outdoor shot put. Reid was named the 2005 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships' Most Outstanding Field Performer and won the New England Indoor shot put title this winter.
The Rams split squads between the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. and the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I. Rhody posted two school records and six NCAA Regional qualifying marks on the weekend, led by the three from Reid.
The four-time defending Atlantic 10 Outdoor champion Rams return to action at the Bucknell Invitational on April 23.
