PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Despite having a split squad, the University of Rhode Island men's track & field team finished fourth out of 11 teams at the Brown Invitational on Saturday.
The Rams, who split squads between the Sea Ray Relays and the Brown Invitational, scored 73 points, behind third-place Harvard (83.50). Brown won the meet with 167.50 and Yale took second at 127.
Rhode Island senior Sean Bramley (New Paltz, N.Y.) won the discus with a NCAA Regional qualifying throw of 165-feet-7. Fellow senior Kevin Lopes (Portsmouth, R.I.) finished third in the high jump with a leap of 6-6 ¼.
Freshman Michael Bernardo (South Attleboro, Mass.) placed fourth in the hammer with a toss of 165-1 and took eighth in the discuss with a heave of 138-0.
Junior Robert Johnson (Rumford, R.I.) finished sixth in the 400 dash in 50.52 and took 12th in the 200 in 22.73. Freshman Brandan Lamboy (Warwick, R.I.) finished sixth in the 100 dash in 11.23 seconds and also placed sixth in the 200 dash in 22.37. Sophomore Christopher Adams (Selden, N.Y.) placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 21-2.
Sophomore Darnell Douglas (Delmar, N.Y.) took eighth in the 200 dash in 22.50 seconds. Freshman Stephen Mateka (Sewell, N.J.) took ninth in the 400 in 50.87 and Luis Rodrigues placed 11th in 50.97. Sophomore Dennis Sheppard (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed ninth in the 800 run in 1:56.48 and junior Andrew Clark (Reading, Mass.) finished 11th in 1:56.89.
The Rams' 4x100 relay team took fourth in a time of 42.91 and Rhody's 4x400 relay team also took fourth in 3:21.66.
