KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island senior Andre' Reid (South Windsor, Conn.) was named Atlantic 10 Men's Track & Field Performer of the Week after breaking his own school record in the shot put by two feet with a heave of 60-feet, 4 ½ inches at Boston University's Valentine's Invitational on Feb. 12
Reid's school record mark is an NCAA provisional qualifying throw and the top toss in the Atlantic 10 conference this season by almost 10 feet. He finished first among collegiate competitors and second overall, breaking his previous school record of 58-feet-4 inches also set at Boston University on Jan. 15. This is the second Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor for Reid, who is the defending conference indoor and outdoor champion in the shot put.
Reid will look to defend his indoor shot put title when the Rams host the 2005 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships this Saturday at Mackal Field House beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The defending Atlantic 10 champion Rams have had earned four conference Performer of the Week honors in five weeks of competing this winter. Reid and sophomore Ashhad Agyapong (Trenton, N.J.) have each won the award twice.
The Valentine's Invitational was a non-scoring meet, but the Rams finished the indoor regular season undefeated at 28-0.
