Senior Andre' Reid Breaks His Own Record In The Shot Put At BU's Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Andre' Reid (South Windsor, Conn.) broke his own school record in the shot put by two feet with a toss of 60-feet-4 1/2 in the Boston University Valentines Invitational on Saturday.

Reid took first among college competitors, shattering his previous school record of 58-4, which he set on Jan. 15, also at Boston University.

Rhody had a small contingent of athletes at the Valentines Invitational as the remainder of the team rested for the Atlantic 10 Championship, which the Rams host next Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Mackal Field House.

Senior Evan Lima (Warwick, R.I.) finished third in the high jump, tying a personal best 6-9 3/4 which qualified him for the ICAAAs. Junior Eric Groce (Rutland, Vt.) finished eighth in the 200-meter dash in an ICAAA qualifying time of 21.61 seconds.

The Rams' 4x400 relay team just missed setting the school record, finishing third in a time of 3:14.36, only 15 tenths of a second off the record of 3:14.21. The team of sophomore Ashhad Agyapong (Trenton, N.J.), Groce, junior Robert Johnson (Rumford, R.I.) and sophomore Darnell Douglas (Delmar, N.Y.) was running together for the first time this season, and ran an ICAAA qualifying time.

Rhody's 4x800 relay team of sophomore Dennis Sheppard (East Bridgewater, Mass.), junior Leandro Bonvehi (Providence, R.I.), senior Luis Rodrigues (Pawtucket, R.I) and freshman John Cuoco (Wilmington, Mass.) placed fourth in 8:01.53. The Rams' had a second 4x800 relay team running and they took sixth in 8:04.26. That team consisted of freshman Matthew Klaas (Latham, N.Y.), junior Kyle Poland (North Scituate, R.I.), freshman Ryan Moore (Ledyard, Conn.) and junior Andrew Poland (North Scituate, R.I.).

Sophomore Dan Godin (Coventry, R.I.) finished fourth in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 60-2. Sophomore Paul Chobanian (Providence, R.I.) also had a personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 50-11 that put him in 11th place.

Senior Sean Bramley (New Paltz, N.Y.) finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 50-2 3/4 and freshman Ryan McCarthy (Worcester, Mass.) took 18th with a toss of 45-6 1/4. Freshman Sean Strizzi (Latham, N.Y.) tied a personal best 14-6 in the pole vault to take 14th and freshman Patrick Griffin (Olean, N.Y.) cleared 13-5 to take 16th.

The Rams "B" 4x400 relay team of freshman Brendan Lamboy (Warwick, R.I.), freshman Stephen Mateka (Sewell, N.J.), junior Patrick Mills (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and senior Karsten Stammen (Helberstadt, Germany) ran a 3:23.55 to finish 19th.

The Rams look to repeat as Atlantic 10 Indoor Champions next Saturday, Feb. 18, when they host the conference championship beginning at 9:30 p.m. Rhody has won three of the last four indoor Atlantic 10 titles and the last four outdoor championships.
